DRIVER Improvement PROGRAM

LA ARTICLE 892.1

Article 892.1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in Louisiana allows drivers to pursue court-approved driver education programs and avoid penalties for misdemeanor driving offenses.  If the person completes the course and the Court approves the request, the charge under this Article shall not become a part of the person’s official driving record. 

TO PARTICIPATE IN ARTICLE 892.1 YOU ARE REQUIRED TO:

NOTE: Completed certificates are NOT automatically sent to the Court.

It is YOUR responsibility to submit your certificate of completion on or before the deadline date provided by the Court. 

PPROVAL FROM THE COURT  

To be eligible for Article 892.1, you MUST be granted permission by the Court on or before your court date indicated on your ticket and request this benefit.

You can make your request by:

  • Appearing at the Court Traffic Violation Bureau during normal office hours on or before your court date indicated on your citation.

  • Appearing in Court on your court date indicated on your citation. 

  • Using our Online Traffic Online Services

E ELIGIBLE

The Court determines eligibility based on the violation you were cited for. Moving violations may be eligible if all requirements are met.

You MAY BE ELIGIBLE if the following conditions are met:​

  • Not participated in 892.1 in two years before the date of the alleged offense.

  • ​If speeding must be under 24 mph over the posted speed limit.

  • Valid Louisiana Driver’s license (cannot be suspended or expired).

  • Approval from the Court.

NOTE: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is ineligible to participate in 892.1.  

OMPLETE ALL REQUIREMENTS SUCCESSFULLY & ON TIME

Once enrolled, you will be given a new court date of up to 90 days to complete the following:

EXTENSIONS OR REQUEST FOR MORE TIME TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM WILL NOT BE GIVEN 

On or before your given court date, YOU MUST:

  • Pay your citation fine and court costs in full.

  • Submit a Course Completion Certificate from a court-approved driving school to the Court in person or by e-mail to 892.1programs@zacharycitycourt.org.

Pay Your Ticket Online

ONLINE SERVICES

Many Traffic matters can be resolved online through a user-friendly platform, eliminating the need to speak to a clerk on the phone or come to the courthouse.  You must have your citation number available.​
