Proper Court Attire
Dressing appropriately for court demonstrates respect for the court, the judge, and the entire legal process.
PLEASE NOTE THAT HATS, SHORTS, AND SLEEVELESS SHIRTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE WORN IN THE COURTROOM.
PLEASE ENSURE PROPER FOOTWEAR IS WORN AT ALL TIMES.
Witnesses and spectators shall appear neat and clean, within the limits of decency. The court will make allowances for those who shall appear in work clothes and for those whose attire is dictated by their religion.
ONLY PERSONS WEARING PROPER ATTIRE WILL BE ADMITTED IN THE COURTROOM
The City Marshal’s Office has the authority to refuse entrance of any person into the courtroom deemed inappropriately dressed.
Attorneys, as officers of the Court, shall help maintain its dignity. Male attorneys shall wear coats and ties in the courtroom, and female attorneys shall wear comparable attire.
court CONDUCT
NO PERSON MAY ENGAGE IN ANY CONDUCT THAT WOULD BE DISRUPTIVE TO THE BUSINESS OF THE COURT, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:

Using tobacco in any form at any time.

Reading newspapers while court is in session.

Displaying any political advertisement of any nature.
PROHIBITED ITEMS IN THE COURTROOM:

NO cell phones or electronics.*

NO purses or handbags.

NO backpacks.
-
NO weapons.
-
NO food or beverages.

NO minors
*Cell phones ARE NOT allowed in the Court Room for Traffic and Criminal proceedings without permission from the Judge.
Cell phones are allowed in the Courtroom for Civil proceedings but must be turned off unless the Judge gives permission.
It is prohibited to broadcast, televise, record, or take photographs in the courtroom or surrounding areas during court sessions and recesses.
court SECURITY
The Marshal or his designated Deputy Marshals shall provide security for the courtrooms, chambers, judicial offices, and hallways within the courthouse.
All persons and property entering the City Court building are subject to inspection by security personnel, including metal detectors, as well as visual and physical inspections.
WEAPONS ARE PROHIBITED
Due to limited seating only defendants and attorneys are allowed during morning criminal court sessions. Parents/guardians may accompany the defendant if the defendant is 17 years old during all proceedings.
Any person may attend criminal trials and civil court proceedings.
Any persons found violating the proper decorum or conduct may be removed from the courtroom, hallway or entryway by security personnel who are charged with the enforcement of this policy.
APPOINTED ATTORNEY
All litigants are entitled to an attorney. If you desire the services of an attorney but cannot afford one, you may request a public defender at your first court appearance.
